HEARTLAND CONNECT GROUPS

The Directory is OPEN
FALL SEMESTER
September 10 – December 9th

Connect Groups have a simple purpose: To bring people together to learn more about God’s word through community! We believe God created us to grow in our faith together!  Sharing, growing and living in relationship with others is such an important part of the Christian life and only then can we live the full life He intends for us. Growing faith through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find. That’s why Connect Groups exist—to help you form life-changing relationships and help you discover more in God’s word!

FIRST WEDNESDAYS

October 4th, November 1st, December 6th

Gather with the Heartland community for extended and focused times of worship, ministry, prayer and discipleship at 7pm on the First Wednesday of the month. These meetings are specifically designed so that we can spend some unhurried time with the Holy Spirit. Midweek Connect Groups are cancelled in the first week of each month to give our entire church the opportunity to attend First Wednesdays.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What happens at a Connect Group?

You’ve probably seen connect group taking place and not even realized it. A connect group looks like friends at lunch, at a coffee show, on campus at HC or in a home. In these environments, groups will join together to grow in their faith by studying a book or topic of interest. At its core, a connect group is a small gathering of people who intentionally working to build relationships with each other and learn more about God’s word. By participating in Connect Groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation and request prayer.

How often does a Connect Group meet?

Our Connect Groups are designed to meet in the common ebs and flows of life.  As a result, Connect Groups meet three semesters a year. During the fall and spring semesters, most groups meet once a week for 13 weeks. In the summer, groups meet for 6 weeks. Connect Groups are meant to bring meaning and community into the flow of your life, so even if you can’t attend every meeting, there is still great value in joining a group.

Where do Connect Groups meet?

Connect Groups happen throughout the DFW metroplex in various locations and there are groups that meet on the campus of HC.

How long does a typical Connect Group stay together?

The great thing about groups is that at the end of the 13 week semester, the group ends and you are welcome to choose a new group at the end of that semester if you’d like. Most Connect Groups meet for a semester. This way, new people can join groups easily and regularly. Also, the semester format allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive semesters, but new members are always welcome.

What is First Wednesdays?

First Wednesdays is our believers/mid-week service that takes place once a month on the first Wednesday of each month. These meetings are specifically designed so that we can spend some unhurried time with the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship and Biblical study. During this week, we strongly encourage all of Connect Groups to cancel their weekly meeting and attend the First Wednesday service together on campus instead. First Wednesday Services start at 7pm and childcare is available. The fall dates for 2017 are October 4th, November 1st and December 6th.

What if I don’t like the first group I try?

The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out a couple different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in Connect Groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone—including you!

So what is your number one priority in life? Your answer to that question reveals your dominant life value. Everyone has one whether they realize it or not. It’s what we unconsciously base our decisions on.

God tells us that our dominant life value is to be loved. Jesus once said that of all the commands in the Bible, two are most important: Love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself.
