Our hearts are broken as we watch our friends in Southeast Texas endure the barrage of rain and flooding as a result of Hurricane Harvey.  Many have already called this flood a “500 Year Flood.” To say that this crisis hits close to home is an extreme understatement. Our relationships run deep in the city of Houston and our hearts are simply overwhelmed with concern for them, their churches and those they lead. Many of these pastors have experienced personal loss regarding their homes or possessions and every single one of them have dozens members that are displaced.

Many of you are asking what you can do in a time like this. Below are some ways that you can get involved immediately and long term in this recovery effort.

The primary need vocalized to us from every local church pastor right now has been monetary in nature. Our ability to drive trucks to many of these locations is literally impossible with parts of I-45 completely closed down. As we are able to wire money to them, they are able to use that money to purchase the basic supplies for people who are displaced. There are a couple of ways that you can give. You can text MISSIONS and then the amount (Ex: Missions 100) to 855-715-1811 or go to HERE and select the Love and Life Missions tab. Thankfully, we are already going to send resources on your behalf through your past giving. We will make absolutely sure that what you give will be dedicated and devoted to helping families in crisis dealing with this flood.

HC is partnering with GraceBridge to assist in this relief effort. Starting on 8/30, HC will have a large trailer onsite for the drop-off of furniture, clothing and household goods that will be taken and given to families in need as a result of loss. Other than the aforementioned items, our GraceBridge trailer is limited to accepting only bottled water, blankets, toiletries, hygiene products, cleaning supplies and baby items (diapers, wipes, formula and bottles). Please note that our office hours are Monday-Thursday from 9pm-5pm and we will not be able to accept donations on Fridays or Saturdays.

GraceBridge, one of our local partners, also needs volunteers at their distribution centers on Wednesday and Thursday of this week in Allen, Texas and on Saturday in Celina, Texas. Sign up to serve HERE.

As soon as the storm ends, the rescue segment will end and the disaster cleanup effort will begin. We will be partnering with our network churches in providing volunteer assistance. If you’d like to be included in the communication for possible volunteer-based projects in Houston, please sign up HERE.
